In 2027, Jupiter moves from Leo into Virgo on July 26, while Saturn and Neptune spend the whole year in Aries, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. The year brings five eclipses, three Mercury retrograde periods and a Mars retrograde from January 10 to April 1. What this sky means for you depends less on your zodiac sign than on where these planets touch your own birth chart.

Retrograde means that a planet appears to move backward, seen from Earth. All dates here are given in Universal Time. Depending on where you live, a date can shift by one day.

Where the planets are in 2027

The slow planets set the background of a year, because they stay in one sign for a long time.

PlanetSign in 2027What astrologers read into it
JupiterLeo until July 25, Virgo from July 26Growth through confidence, then through skill and care
SaturnAries all yearResponsibility for your own initiative
UranusGemini all yearNew ways of learning and talking
NeptuneAries all yearIdeals tied to new beginnings
PlutoAquarius all yearSlow, deep change in groups and shared ideas

Jupiter takes about twelve years to travel through the zodiac, roughly one year per sign. It is the only slow planet that changes signs in 2027. In Leo, astrologers link it with warmth, creativity and the wish to be seen. In Virgo, growth is read as coming through useful work and attention to detail.

Saturn stands for structure, limits and the lessons that take time. It moves from 8° to 28° Aries during 2027. People born with Saturn in Aries meet it there again. What a Saturn return is and who has one in 2027

Eclipses in 2027: the five dates

An eclipse is a new moon or a full moon that falls close to the lunar nodes, the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the path of the Sun. In 2027 the North Node is in Aquarius and the South Node in Leo, and three of the five eclipses fall in these two signs.

DateEclipsePosition
February 6, 2027Annular solar eclipse18° Aquarius
February 20, 2027Penumbral lunar eclipse2° Virgo
July 18, 2027Penumbral lunar eclipse26° Capricorn
August 2, 2027Total solar eclipse10° Leo
August 17, 2027Penumbral lunar eclipse24° Aquarius

Annular means that a bright ring of the Sun stays visible around the Moon. Penumbral means that the Moon only crosses the faint outer part of the Earth's shadow.

The total solar eclipse of August 2 is one of the longest of the century, with more than six minutes of totality at its maximum. Its path crosses southern Spain, North Africa and Egypt. From the United States, Germany, Austria and Switzerland it is not visible as a total eclipse.

Astrologers read a solar eclipse as a strong new moon, a time for a fresh start, and a lunar eclipse as a strong full moon, a time when something becomes visible or comes to a close.

Retrograde planets in 2027

A retrograde planet appears to move backward through the zodiac. It never really reverses: the effect comes from the Earth and the planet circling the Sun at different speeds. Astrologers read retrograde periods as times to review and slow down.

The planets from Jupiter outward are retrograde for several months every year. Venus is not retrograde at all in 2027. Mercury's three periods get the most attention. Mercury retrograde 2027: the dates and what to do

Mars retrograde 2027: January 10 to April 1

Mars is retrograde only about every two years, which makes this the least ordinary retrograde of 2027. It runs from January 10 to April 1, from 10° Virgo back to 21° Leo.

Mars stands for drive: how you go after what you want. Astrologers read a Mars retrograde as a time when rethinking brings more than pushing harder.

Jupiter is retrograde in the same months and turns direct, meaning forward again, in mid-April. Many astrologers read the first quarter of 2027 as a slower, more thoughtful start. That describes a mood, not a rule.

Why a 2027 horoscope by zodiac sign is only a sketch

Everything above is true for everyone on Earth. A 2027 horoscope by zodiac sign narrows it down by one step only: it looks at your Sun sign. About one person in twelve shares that sign, so the same text is written for millions of people.

Your birth chart is far more specific. It is the map of the sky for the minute and place you were born, with the Sun, the Moon, every planet and the twelve houses, the areas of life. What a birth chart is and what it shows

What 2027 means for you depends on where the moving sky touches that map:

  • Which house a planet moves through. Jupiter in Leo may cross your tenth house of career or your fourth house of home. That depends on your Rising sign, the sign on the eastern horizon at your birth, also called the Ascendant.
  • Which of your planets it meets. The eclipse at 10° Leo matters more for someone whose Moon stands near 10° Leo than for someone with no planet there.

The sky of 2027 is the same for everyone. Where it touches your birth chart is what makes it your year.

This is the comparison the 2027 Year Ahead Reading makes: it sets the moving sky of 2027 against your birth chart, month by month.

How to read 2027 for your own chart

  1. Find your Rising sign and your houses, the areas of life the slow planets move through for you.
  2. Note the degrees of your Sun, your Moon and your Rising sign, and compare them with the eclipse positions and with Saturn's stretch of Aries.
  3. Mark the retrograde periods in your calendar as times for review, not as times to worry about.
