Your Jupiter sign is the zodiac sign Jupiter stood in at the moment you were born. It describes where you grow most easily: what gives you confidence, how you are generous and what makes life feel meaningful to you. Jupiter needs about a year for each sign, so you share your Jupiter sign with many people in your school year.
What your Jupiter sign describes
In a birth chart, each planet stands for one part of you. Jupiter, the largest planet, is the part that wants more of life. Astrologers read four things from it.
- Where you grow. The kind of experience that makes your world bigger: learning, travel, responsibility, closeness.
- What gives you confidence. The field where you expect things to go well, and therefore try.
- How you are generous. What you give freely: time, knowledge, encouragement, a place at your table.
- What gives life meaning for you. The beliefs and big ideas you keep coming back to.
Tradition calls Jupiter the planet of luck. A more honest reading: Jupiter shows where you trust, and people who trust try more often. It promises nothing. It also shows where you tend to overdo it: too much, too big, too early.
Your Jupiter sign has nothing to do with your Sun sign, the sign people mean when they ask what your sign is. Jupiter can stand in any of the twelve. Of two careful Virgos, the one with Jupiter in Sagittarius may feel most confident far from home, and the one with Jupiter in Cancer at the family table.
Why so many people your age share your Jupiter sign
Jupiter needs 11.86 years to circle the Sun once. That is about one year per sign. For comparison: the Sun passes through a sign in about 30 days, the Moon in about two and a half days.
So your Jupiter sign says less about you alone than about everyone born while Jupiter was in that sign. These are the changes of sign from 2024 to 2028:
| Jupiter enters | Date |
|---|---|
| Gemini | late May 2024 |
| Cancer | around June 9, 2025 |
| Leo | around June 30, 2026 |
| Virgo | July 26, 2027 |
| Libra | around August 24, 2028 |
A child born in November 2026 has Jupiter in Leo. A child born in February 2026 has Jupiter in Cancer. The dates are given in Universal Time and can shift by a day depending on where you live.
Two things follow. In these years the change falls in the middle of the calendar year, so two people born in the same year can have different Jupiter signs. And Jupiter returns to the same sign about every twelve years, so people twelve years older or younger than you often share yours.
The twelve Jupiter signs at a glance
| Jupiter sign | How this Jupiter grows |
|---|---|
| Aries | By starting: it gains confidence from the first step, from daring something new and going ahead alone. |
| Taurus | By building: it grows through patience, good craft and things that last, and trusts what it can touch. |
| Gemini | By learning: it grows through questions, reading and many contacts, and shares what it knows. |
| Cancer | By caring: it grows through family, belonging and a place called home, and gives shelter freely. |
| Leo | By creating: it gains confidence when it shows what it can do, and is generous with warmth and praise. |
| Virgo | By improving: it grows through skill and useful work, and helps in practical ways. |
| Libra | Through others: it grows in partnership and fair exchange, and trusts what two can do together. |
| Scorpio | By going deep: it grows through honesty, full commitment and the courage to look below the surface. |
| Sagittarius | By going far: it grows through travel, study and big questions, and trusts that things work out. |
| Capricorn | By taking responsibility: it grows through long-term goals, and trusts effort more than luck. |
| Aquarius | By thinking ahead: it grows through ideas, friends and groups, and believes things could be different. |
| Pisces | By trusting: it grows through compassion and imagination, and gives without counting. |
Read these as tendencies, not as rules. How your Jupiter plays out depends on the rest of your chart.

Many people your age share the sign. The house is what makes Jupiter yours. Houses are the twelve sections of a chart, each linked to an area of life. They begin at the Rising point, the degree of your Rising sign (also called the Ascendant). The Rising sign changes about every two hours, so two people born on the same day can have Jupiter in different houses.
The sign shows how you grow. The house shows where.
- Third house (communication, learning, siblings): growth comes through learning, talking and writing.
- Fourth house (home and roots): confidence grows from a home base and from family.
- Seventh house (partnership): you grow most in close one-to-one relationships.
- Tenth house (career and public role): growth is linked with work and with being visible.
Without a birth time, your Jupiter sign is still exact. Only the house is missing.
Jupiter does not show where luck finds you. It shows where you trust enough to try.
The Jupiter return: every twelve years
Because Jupiter needs about twelve years for one round, it comes back to the position it had at your birth at around ages 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72. This is called a Jupiter return. Astrologers read it as the start of a new round of growth, a year for asking what you want more of. It describes a theme, not an event. How the Jupiter return works
Jupiter is often read together with Saturn. Jupiter widens, Saturn sets limits and asks for patience. One shows where you reach out, the other where you take your time. What your Saturn sign means
What to do with your Jupiter sign
- Find your Jupiter sign and read its line in the table. Ask where you learn and grow almost without effort.
- Add the house. Which area of life does this growth belong to?
- Look at the other side too. Where do you take on too much, or promise more than you can keep?

Questions, answered
How do I find my Jupiter sign?
You need your date of birth. Jupiter stays in one sign for about a year, so the birth time matters only on the day it changes signs. A calculated birth chart shows the exact position.
Is the Jupiter sign the same as my Sun sign?
Only by chance. Jupiter is not tied to the Sun and can stand in any of the twelve signs, whatever your Sun sign is.
Does my Jupiter sign show where I will be lucky?
It does not promise luck. Astrologers read it as the field where you trust easily and therefore try more, which describes a tendency and not an outcome.
Why do so many of my classmates have the same Jupiter sign as I do?
Jupiter needs 11.86 years to circle the Sun and spends about a year in each sign. People born in the months around your birthday therefore usually share your Jupiter sign.
